Over the past few months, several staff have reported receiving suspicious phone calls from people purporting to come from IT Services. The caller says that they have had reports of viruses or problems on the member of staff’s PC and that they would like to run checks and install software to eradicate the problem. However, this is a fraudulent phone call and, were the software to be installed, it could allow them to take control of the staff PC.
To date, no staff have been fooled into installing software in this way or revealing any information that would compromise the university. However, we all need to be vigilant to types of suspicious activity like this.
REMEMBER:
- IT Services will never ask you for your password.
- If you are suspicious of any contact, whether phone or email, or from other source, please contact the Information Assurance Service, x7946 ias@le.ac.uk
