Office 365 staff email upgrade - dates released, find out how to prepare

The dates for when staff and postgraduate researchers email is to be upgraded, have been released. Find out what you need to do to prepare.

When will my email account be upgraded?

Staff and postgraduate researchers email will be upgraded between:

2 May 2017 and 26 May 2017

  • To minimise disruption your email account will be upgraded within the same time period as your department, starting from 9pm on each day
    • This may take a number of hours, so your department may not be fully upgraded until the following day
  • See the upgrade schedule page for when you and your department will be upgraded
  • Other email accounts such as Additional and Departmental accounts will be upgraded within the same time period
  • You will receive an email confirming which day your email account will be upgraded and then another email when your email has been upgraded

How do I prepare?

  • See the prepare for your upgrade page for what you might experience when you upgrade
  • Your email account will be inaccessible for about 20 minutes whilst it is upgraded
  • Existing emails, calendar appointments and contacts will be migrated automatically

What else do I need to know?

Error messages in Outlook

The Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you quit and restart Outlook

When other staff email accounts are upgraded, you may receive messages such as:

This is expected behaviour. You will need to close and open Outlook.

How to change your password whilst off-campus

Previously you could change your password using the Outlook Web App. This will no longer be possible, as we will now be using Outlook on the Web instead. Instead you can change your password from the University login page. Find out more…

From 3 May 2017 onwards you can call the IT Service Desk on 0116 252 2253 and press 2 about email upgrade issues from 7.00am until 5.00pm on each weekday. You can also email staffemail365@leicester.ac.uk for email support.
