Google Chrome is the University’s new additional browser
The move to Google Chrome has been decided as part of the recent Annual Browser review, based on feedback from staff and students who have requested to use the Chrome browser instead of Firefox. The Web browser policy has also be updated to reflect this change.
How do I use Google Chrome?
Since 1 November 2016 Google Chrome has been installed on all University PCs. When it has installed on your University PC you will be able to find it from the Start menu > All programs > Google Chrome. You can also search for it from the Start menu > Search programs and files.
What do I need to know?
- Google Chrome will update automatically using its own built-in update mechanism, so you should get the latest version.
- Chrome will not automatically import Firefox bookmarks – See How do I transfer my bookmarks from Firefox to Google Chrome?
- Certain settings within Chrome have been configured by IT Services and it will not be possible to change them. This includes the default homepage, use of browser extensions and the Password Manager.
- Google Chrome should not be relied upon for teaching as testing is only carried out on the University’s principle browser, Internet Explorer, as outlined in the Web browser policy.
- Some Chrome extensions may be available to install, if they comply with University Information Security Policy, licence terms and other conditions
