Download and use programs on your personal Mac or PC

Some programs are available for you to download and use on your personal Mac or PC whilst you study or work at the University. These are offered at no cost or at a discounted rate.

What’s available?

Visit the Home use programs section on the IT Help website for a full list of what you can use. SPSS, GraphPad Prism, ArcGIS and Microsoft Office are the most commonly download programs.

How do I get these programs?Person on laptop

Most programs can be obtained by following these three steps:

  1. Visit the Home use programs section to see what’s available
  2. Request access to use the program by completing the registration form on the IT Help website or login with your University IT account
  3. Download and Install the program – full instructions are provided

Some programs are now available to download using MyFiles. You no longer need to visit the Helpzone in the Library to obtain a DVD to install programs. Other programs can be downloaded from the suppliers’ website.  Check that you agree to the terms and conditions before you register and when you install the program.

You may be able to use the program for as long as you study or work for the University. Other programs may need to be renewed annually.

If the program you require is not available to use on your personal device, it still might be available to install on a University PC using the Program Installer.

Need IT help?

Visit the Programs section on the IT Help website for what’s available on a University PC and for home use.

As the program will be installed on your Personal Mac or PC we are unfortunately unable to help with installing programs. However if you need help with what’s available or registering to use a program, you can contact the IT Service Desk on 0116 252 2253 or via email at ithelp@le.ac.uk.
