Staff email upgrades now complete
During November and December 9113 email accounts have been upgraded over the course of four weekends. All staff now have:
- More storage space - standard quota increased from 500MB to 5GB
- The Outlook Web App (Webmail) has been redesigned and will work with most popular web browsers
- Access to student email addresses via the Global Address List (GAL)
The project will now move into Stage 2, which includes more features and benefits.
The webmail page now has only one Staff button, which points you to the new Outlook Web App – see the screenshot above. During the upgrade, two buttons were necessary dependent on whether staff had been upgraded or not.
How your name is displayed
The way your name will appear on Staff email may have changed during the upgrade. For staff your display name comes from your HR record. For Postgraduate Researchers your name is taken from the Student Record System (SITS).
Also during the weekend of 7-8 December 2013, changes were made to how University systems show your name following feedback from staff. Now if you have chosen a Preferred First Name that is different from your Legal First Name in Employee Self Service (ESS) your middle initials will not show in your display name. For example, if your name is Jane Eleanor Acey and your Preferred First Name is Ellie your display name will now become Acey, Ellie.
