Corporate Website Launch

On 30 June 2009 the first phase of the Corporate Website Redevelopment project was delivered on time thanks to the excellent working partnership between IT Services Web Team & Marketing and the use of a structured project management approach, PRINCE 2.

Moving the University’s corporate website from the old CWIS system to the Plone web content management system is the biggest single change to the University’s web serving and searching systems since the first server went live in the mid 90’s.  The top layer pages have been given a more consistent look and feel which includes a new homepage, together with greatly improved information & index pages and themed 'magazine' styled sites for Research, Business, Alumni & Study with Us. In addition, the implementation of a new Google powered search facility will dramatically improve search capability across the whole site.

By the end of the year these improvements will be joined by three other magazine sites dealing with critical information for Staff, Students and News & Events together with changes to the internal Homepage, this will mark the end of the project.

Early in 2010 we will engage with Departments and Corporate Services to help them transfer their websites into Plone ensuring easier management of the sites and improving overall consistency and accessibility. Longer term more features will become available making Plone an increasingly flexible and functional website development tool.
