Site Licensed Software
Subject to the Conditions of Use, all University paid staff and UK based students can install the site licensed PC software listed below on University and privately owned machines.

Products with Special Conditions
- SPSS is available to eligible users worldwide.
- Maple: Please note that Maple is only available for installation on University owned machines, it is not for home use.
- ArcGIS and ArcInfo: To install these products on your home machine, you will need a license generating which is specific to the PC you intend to use. Please note that this process can take up to three days.
- Imagine: You will need a license file to use this software. Once you have installed the software on your PC, a unique ID number is generated. Please email this to ithelp@le.ac.uk to initiate the request for a license file. Please note that this process can take up to a week depending upon the response time of the licensing company. We recommend that you take this delay into consideration and ensure that you install the product at least 10 days before you need to use it.
- LabVIEW is available to University of Leicester staff and Research Postgraduates. Please see details of how to obtain LabVIEW.
Eligibility
Each software license has different conditions of use. The following is intended as a general guide only.
Who is eligible to use this software?
- University of Leicester staff - i.e paid staff on the University payroll.
- University of Leicester UK based campus or distance learning students.
Staff with Associate status
For example, honorary lecturers, staff paid on fees payroll, are entitled to use some software, for example, Sophos or SPSS by special permission. Please contact the IT Service Desk in the first instance for details.
Who is not eligible to use this software?
- Staff and Students not based in the UK.
- Visitors to the University.
Obtaining Software
- Campus based eligible users can loan a CD copy of their chosen software from the Help Zone situated on the ground floor of the David Wilson Library.
- Eligible users not based on the main campus, should contact the IT Service Desk for information on how to obtain a copy of the site license software you require.
Updating Licence Codes
If software has a licence code which has to be updated annually, please contact the IT Service Desk to obtain this new code.
Known Software Issues
Some software packages may exhibit minor problems or compatibility issues within our working computer environment. Details of these can be found on our Known Software Issues page.
