Install Skype for Business on your University Mac from 11 September 2017

Skype for Business is now available to install on University Macs, as Microsoft Lync will no longer be supported from October 2017

Microsoft Lync will no longer be supported from 10 October 2017. Instead you can install Skype for Business.

Your contact information and conversation history from Lync or Skype for Business in Windows will be available in Outlook.

When

Skype for Business was made available to University Macs from 11 September 2017.

What do I need to do?

To set up Skype for Business:

1. Launch the Finder

2. Open the Application directory

3. Double click on Skype for Business

4. Sign in with your University IT account username and password

  • If asked to sign-in using any keychain items, click Always Allow
  • If you are redirected to the University login page, enter your University email address and password

5. Click Next to proceed through the Welcome to Skype information

6. Click Finish to complete the installation

  • You can use Skype for Business by clicking on the icon in the Dock
  • You may need to login with your University IT account username and password

If you have a manually assured University Mac, you can download and install the application for free.

  • Skype for Business is compatible with OS X El Capitan or macOS Sierra. If you are running OS X Yosemite you will need to upgrade in order to see the Skype for Business installation option in Mac Self Service. Find out how to check your Mac version here.
