Not upgraded to Windows 7 yet?
Centrally timetabled rooms
Most centrally timetabled teaching rooms (lecture theatres and seminar rooms) have now been upgraded to Windows 7. Staff who have not been upgraded to Windows 7 will only be able to login to the computer in the teaching rooms using the avsguest account.
Username .\avsguest
Password Pa55word
The avsguest account gives you access to the Internet and Microsoft Office 2010. If you need access to your personal Z: drive whilst logged in as avsguest use https://zdrive.le.ac.uk/letter/username e.g. https://zdrive.le.ac.uk/a/abc12.
Student PC areas
Student PC areas will be upgraded to Windows 7 between July and September 2012. If you are using Student PC areas for teaching, check if the PC area has been upgraded or not.
Software
If you need to install additional University software this option will not be available on the avsguest account. You will need to request a temporary Windows 7 account from the IT Service Desk. When you have logged into your temporary Windows 7 account you can install University software using the Program Installer.
Windows 7 PCS have access to many of the latest software programs. See the list of changes to programs you may use.
Blackboard 9.1
Blackboard has been upgraded to the latest version, but it does not work on Internet Explorer 7. As you have not yet been upgraded to Windows 7 you will need to install Firefox, an alternative web browser, to work with the new version of Blackboard.
- Contact the IT Service Desk to request Firefox on CFS Software 2.
- When the IT Service Desk has done their work you will need to restart your computer.
- You can then run Firefox from Start > All Programs > CFS Software 2> Firefox ESR 10 > Mozilla Firefox
