Email distribution groups to become manageable again
The membership of email distributions groups (mailing lists) can be modified again from Tuesday 25 July 2017. There may be up to a minute where emails won’t be able to be sent to distribution groups whilst they are updated.
eduroam wifi security certificate updated
On Tuesday 27 June 2017 the security certificate used when connecting to the University eduroam wifi network was updated.
IT Service Desk staff meeting - Friday 28 July 2017 3.30pm - 4.30pm
A staff meeting is held every other Friday afternoon for an hour. You will not be able to contact the IT Service Desk during this time.
High Performance Computing maintenance – Unavailable Wednesday 26 July 2017 8am – 6pm
ALICE and SPECTRE will be unavailable on Wednesday 26 July 2017 between 8.00am and 6.00pm due to essential maintenance. You will not be able to use ALICE and SPECTRE during this time.

Proposed teaching software for academic year 2017-18
Student PCs are due to be upgraded to Windows 10 in the summer. The proposed list of programs that will be installed on student University PCs or will be available for students to use, has been released. Let us know if you have any concerns that might affect your teaching.
University response to global cyber attack
As reported in the national media a large number of organisations globally suffered a ransomware attack on Friday. This attack was focused on vulnerabilities in the Windows operating system.
Update: Disruption to University Computers
We have been experiencing a period of stability, therefore we have closed this incident and will continue to monitor performance.
Updated: Issue with some Reflect lecture capture recordings
Following an issue which is affecting staff when they attempt to make a manual lecture capture recordings, a workaround is planned. Automatic recordings should not be affected and proceed as normal.
CANCELLED: Work affecting all University Telephones – Tuesday 20 June 2017 6.00pm - 11.00pm
The maintenance which is due to occur tonight, Tuesday 20 June 2017, has been cancelled due to necessary preparations for the maintenance not being able to be carried out. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused.
University response to UCL cyber-attack
We have been made aware of a ransomware attack on University College London which affected their personal and shared drives yesterday, Thursday 14 June 2017. We have not been affected by this attack, however, IT Services have been monitoring the situation and have taken measures to minimise risk.
Do not download ‘OneClass’ Chrome Extension
The University have been made aware of a phishing email telling students and staff to download Google Chrome extension OneClass which steals their usernames and passwords. This extension is not supported by Blackboard or the University of Leicester. You should not install this extension.
University PC update schedule
A minor update is required to most University PCs over the next few months. During the update your screen may go blank or your icons may disappear temporarily. You may need to restart following any updates on a laptop. See the schedule for when your computer is due to be updated.
