Taskbar

You can pin your favourite programs to the taskbar and use jump lists to find your recently used or favourite items.

Programs on the taskbar

Each program on the taskbar will appear as a single button without a label, even if multiple files for a program are open. You can change the way buttons appear on the taskbar and choose whether programs are combined or labelled.

You can rearrange the order of the buttons on the taskbar by dragging the buttons to where you want them to go.

Pin to taskbar

Pin Programs

You can pin programs to the task bar. To pin programs to the task bar:

  1. Search for the program in the Start Menu
  2. Right click and choose Pin to the Taskbar

Jump Lists

Jumplist

Jump Lists will show you your most recently opened files. You can also pin your favourite items to the jump list.

To access a jump list

  1. Right click a Program’s task bar button
  2. A list of recently opened or pinned items will appear

To pin an item to the Jump List

  1. Pin an icon to the jump listRight-click the program’s taskbar button.
  2. Point to the item and push the pin icon that appears.

To unpin an item

  1. Un-pin an item from the jump listRight-click the program’s taskbar button.
  2. Point to the pinned item and click the pin icon that appears.

Pin web pages to the jump list

  1. When in Internet Explorer, choose the website you want to pin.
  2. Click the address bar and drag the web address to the Internet Explorer taskbar button. 
  3. The web address will now be pinned to the jump list.

Change how buttons appear on the taskbar

Each program on the taskbar is a single button, no matter how many items you have open in that program. You can choose to un-combine programs on the taskbar so that each item will be shown, like in Windows XP.

  1. Right click on the Taskbar > Properties
  2. In the Taskbar tab open the drop down menu for Taskbar buttons.
  3. Change to never combine and click Apply. Then choose Ok.

To combine again just repeat the following steps but choose Always combine, hide labels from the drop down menu.
