SA incoming deviceAirport Bus Service:

Our Airport Bus Service will be offered on Wednesday 20th September 2017 this service is recommended for students joining us for the Year or Fall Semester. If you are planning on joining the Discover London Tour, you will need to arrive earlier.

This is a free service provided by the University of Leicester for incoming international Study Abroad & Erasmus students.

We ask that you book a place in advance to reserve a seat, and to help us provide enough coaches for all of our students.

If you have made a reservation for the Airport Bus Service you will be allocated a seat on arrival at the airport. The Study Abroad Team will be at Heathrow Airport Arrivals Meeting Point to welcome you, please come and see us to check in after you arrive.

We ask that students book a place in advance to secure a seat, and also to provide their hall address so that we can advise when to depart the coach as we will be stopping at multiple halls. Independent travel

If you do not wish to use the service, or will be flying to another airport, you will need to make independent travel arrangements to campus. It is advised that you arrive during office hours and have the details of your term time address and early arrival booking address for the Orientation Programme.

Busbus

Leicester is served by a wide range of bus (sometimes called coach) services, mostly operated by National Express. Although slower than rail travel, journeys by coach are usually considerably cheaper. A coach from Leicester to London takes about three hours. National Express coaches also have provision for luggage on their airport services. You may prefer to transport your luggage by bus, rather than making train connections with all of your bags.

TrainLeicester train station

Leicester is just 69 minutes direct from London by train. There are also direct rail links to Birmingham, Sheffield, Nottingham, Derby, East Midlands Parkway (for East Midlands Airport), Peterborough, Luton and Stansted Airport.

Taxi in Leicester

When you arrive in Leicester we recommend that you take a Black Hackney Cab (taxi) to your accommodation. Black cabs, although not always black in colour, will share a distinctive vehicle shape, and clearly display a licence from the council with a photo id. Black cabs will be located at designated taxi ranks outside the bus and train stations. Protocol dictates that passengers take the first Black Cab in the queue. Payment will be expected in cash upon arrival at your destination, a rolling fare will be clearly displayed on a monitor during the journey. Leicester City Council regulates and sets fares in Leicester.
