Santander Student Travel Awards 2011-12
For University of Leicester students

These awards, made possible by the Santander Group, are to enable students at the University of Leicester to travel to countries within the Santander Universities Network (namely Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Venezuela, Spain, and Portugal) for academic-related activities and to promote links with institutions in those countries.
Award details
- Minimum 10 grants available for staff and students, worth up to a maximum of £750 each
- Available for activities completed within the 2011-12 financial year
- Available to all current University of Leicester full-time students
- There will be three deadlines for the consideration of applications during the year: 1 October 2011, 1 February 2012 and 1 May 2012. Visits must be completed by 31 July 2012
- After consideration of applications received by the 1 May 2012 deadline, any remaining funding will be allocated on a first come first served basis
Notes on selection criteria
- Eligible activities to include: research and other collaborative work, student exchange, study projects.
- Funds are not available for participation in conferences or for visits which are not an integral part of a student’s course of study.
- Eligible costs to include: travel, accommodation.
- Priority will be given to students undertaking a compulsory year abroad at a partner university in Latin America. Students undertaking Erasmus exchanges to Spain and Portugal are not eligible to apply.
- Funds cannot be claimed retrospectively for visits which have already taken place at the time of application.
- Students are responsible for arranging their own visits.
- Other requirements: students who receive awards will be required to write a report describing their experience within a month of their return and may be asked to take part in future promotional activities for the awards. Successful candidates’ contact details will be made available to Santander Bank.
- While previous Santander Travel Award winners are not excluded from applying again, priority may be given to applicants who have not previously benefitted from an award.
