Appointments

We operate an ’Advanced Access’ appointment system for the GP’s.  The system is based upon meeting patient’s needs.  Some patients need to see a GP because they have a problem that they are concerned about.  It may be a minor problem that they have had for a while that has now become concerning or a ‘Medical Emergency’ situation.  These patients ‘usually’ prefer to be seen today or quite soon.  Other patients need to pre-book their appointment because of other commitments (usually attendance at lectures or work), or just because they like to book in advance.  Because of this 50% of our GP appointments can be pre-booked, the rest are available on the day. These 'same day' appointments can be booked from 08:00am by using option 1 on the telephone system (we must have your correct telphone number on our system for this to work) or using the 'on-line' service via a computer/mobile phone or interactive TV (a pin number is required for this service). Alternatively speak to reception at 08:30 either in person or call 0844 815 1105.

When you make an appointment we will try and book you with a male or female doctor if you state a preference.  This will not always be possible during vacation times.

Each doctors appointment is for 10 minutes, this is the average length of time it takes to deal with one clinical issue.  If you have more than one medical problem to discuss, or you need more than 10 minutes with the doctor, please ask reception for a double appointment.  The doctor may ask you to make another appointment if you attend with more than one problem in a single visit. This isn't only to help the doctor run to time, it also gives you the time you need to talk to the doctor and ask questions about the advice you have been given.

TELEPHONE CONSULTATIONS/DISCUSSIONS WITH THE DOCTOR
Telephone consultations can be requested by contacting reception.  You will need to give reception a telephone number you can be contacted on and you will be booked onto the appointment screen.  The GP will then call you back for a consultation.

MISSED OR LATE APPOINTMENTS
If you cannot keep an appointment, or will be late arriving, please let us know as soon as you can.  If you arrive 15 minutes late or more, the doctor/nurse will not see you.

Wheelchair Users

The consulting room doors are quite narrow and do not allow entry with some wheelchairs.

There are steep steps to a small number of consulting rooms. When booking an appointment please ask to see someone in a room before the steps.

The nearest wheelchair accessible toilet is in the student counselling building, next door to the health centre. Please be aware that this building is sometimes closed and unavailable.
