The Freemen's Common Health Centre

The Freemen’s Common Health Centre provides primary medical care mainly to the students and staff of the University of Leicester. The practice is fully conversant with the spectrum of health care needs within this academic community and the surrounding city population. We specialise in all problems affecting young people, including asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, inflammatory bowel disease, psychological ill health, sexual health, travel medicine and sports injuries. We recognise that mature and international students have specific health care needs. Many staff and their families are registered with us and our expertise extends to the medical problems affecting these groups.

Application to join our list is currently open to students and staff (including Husbands/Wives/Partners & children) of the University of Leicester only.

The health centre is situated at the junction of University Road and Welford Road. There is a University car park (Freemen’s Common Campus) which has a security barrier system in operation and Pay & Display parking (£1 per hour, £3 for Four hours or £5 full day). You will be allowed in without a pass if you use the intercom to tell security that you have an appointment at the health centre. There is restricted access to the building for disabled patients.

Patients may see any doctor they choose, but if there is a long-term problem it is advisable to see the same doctor at each visit so that we can provide continuity of care.

Wheelchair Users

The consulting room doors are quite narrow and do not allow entry with some wheelchairs.

There are steep steps to a small number of consulting rooms. When booking an appointment please ask to see someone in a room before the steps.

The nearest wheelchair accessible toilet is in the student counselling building, next door to the health centre. Please be aware that this building is sometimes closed and unavailable.
