Why Should We Recycle: Rubbish Facts!

HEADLINE FACTS ABOUT OUR WASTE

At the moment the University's TOTAL waste production every year is about 2500 tonnes. That's why last year we put a banner on the Attenborough Tower in Big Green Week because every year we can just about fill the Tower with the rubbish we produce.

This includes waste from the residences, all the academic buildings, our construction waste and special wastes such as electrical, batteries, hazardous and clinical wastes.

After the last waste audit (performed in July and August when we mainly only have the staff onsite) we were found to be recycling around 55% of the waste (measured in kgs) that we produce from the academic buildings! This is excellent news but we know we can do a lot better as some of the buildings were achieving up to a 90% recycling. More information on the waste audit will be available soon.
