Trevor Humphreys
Trevor Humphreys joined the University as Director of Estates and Facilities Management in June 2012. Trevor is a Chartered Building Surveyor who was previously employed at the University of Manchester as Deputy Director of Estates. His working career has been in the HE sector, firstly 10 years at the University of Liverpool and then 14 years at Manchester. Trevor enjoys the enormous diversity that there is in managing a University estate from portering and cleaning matters to major capital projects, no two days are the same.
"When the post of Director of Estates and Facilities Management was advertised at the University of Leicester, I must admit I did not know much about the institution but on researching it further, it became very apparent that it fitted the bill for my aspirations and ambition. I was very impressed with the synergy of teaching and research and diversity of student population with its equal mix of undergraduate and post graduate. The decision to apply was therefore an easy one for me to make."
"The campus is very different to Manchester and the first thing that struck me was that it felt much more peaceful. I have also been struck by a number of very interesting buildings on campus that undoubtedly present some real challenges in terms of functionality and cost to maintain. The grade 2* listed Engineering Building is world known as it was designed by James Stirling. Having such buildings brings with it significant responsibility to ensure we preserve them for the future while at the same time ensuring that they are fit for purpose and maintained in good condition."
Trevor's approach is relaxed but business like; he believes that it is possible to get the best out of people by building trust and honesty. "I am tremendously excited about the opportunity at Leicester and very much looking forward to the challenges this will bring. The University, like the sector, continues to faces great uncertainty over the coming months and years and for me, it is the opportunity to make a very positive contribution to both the strategic direction of the University and to the continued improvement of the estate and how this positively influences the quality of teaching and learning, research, and of course the student experience."
Until his move to Leicester Trevor has lived all his life in Liverpool with his wife Julia and two children Abigail and Nicolas. Julia also works at the University of Leicester in the College of Science and Engineering as a Research Centre Manager. Trevor is a keen golfer although this has taken somewhat of a backseat since his move to the East Midlands. When things settle down he intends to dust of his clubs and find a nice course to hack around.
