TESOL Taster Course

This four session course gives an insight into the work of an English Language teacher.

Next Course Dates:

Tuesdays 4:30 - 6:30 17 and 24 February, 3 and 10 March 2015

The aim of these sessions is to give participants an introductory idea of what Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) involves for both learners and teachers; what knowledge and skills an English Language teacher needs and whether it’s something that you would like to do in the future. The sessions will be very practical with demonstrations of techniques and methodologies as well as an opportunity to try out some of the ideas in peer teaching slots.

All staff or students at the University of Leicester are welcome to join this course.

Attitudes, perceptions and beliefs about teaching and learning
Roles of the EFL teacher and learner
How to teach grammar

Session 2

Classroom organisation
Peer teach something you know eg “How to fold a T-shirt”

Session 3

How to teach skills

Session 4

Feedback and error correction
How to teach speaking
Looking forward – jobs/qualifications/teaching publications and websites

 The TESOL Taster is one of the many activities and awards recognised on your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) - a nationally recognised transcript that demonstrates both your academic and extra-curricular achievements, providing future employers or further study institutions with a comprehensive record of the knowledge, skills and experience gained during your time at University. For more information on the steps you need to take to qualify for recognition, visit our website.

Please note - there is a certificate for attendance, but the TESOL Taster  is not a qualification for teaching.
