Course aims
The course aims are different in each of the two semesters; areas covered include:
- a variety of literary genres, including poetry, prose and drama
- biographical information about authors
- an overview of the political, social and economic background to literary texts and how these affect the writers' imaginative viewpoint
- guidance on writing academic essays on literature
- Expand the classroom experience of literature with extra-curricular visits to local theatrical and cinematic events
Who are these courses for?
- These courses are open to all Erasmus and Study Abroad students for university credits.
- Students should have an upper-intermediate level of English (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent).
Assessment
Students are required to submit two main pieces of written work, each of 1,500 words. A choice of titles and guidelines for producing the assignments will be provided by the tutor.
Assessments may include:
- A literary essay based on a novel
- A comparative analysis of two modern poems
- A review of a play, book or movie version of a novel
Students are expected to attend all sessions
