Engage with Students
When it comes to recruiting graduates, we appreciate that one size doesn’t always fit all. That’s why we can offer you a range of tailored recruitment services. Tailored to your needs and your budget; tailored to reach the graduates that you need to reach.
Whether you’re a large national employer or a locally-based SME, whether you want to do something campus-wide, or a more targeted campaign aimed at a specific group of students, we can help. Our approach is based around you, and we'll work with you to build a tailored programme that supports your recruitment needs, below are some examples of activities we have run in the past year, to find out more about a specific activity, or to start building your custom programme please contact us.
You may want to actively target students studying a particular subject or those in a particular faculty. We can make that happen by introducing you to Course Tutors and key teaching staff within specific departments. Also, we have dedicated Careers Tutors within each school, and they regularly talk to their students about relevant graduate programmes or opportunities.
Interviewing and testing
Leicester is conveniently located in the heart of England. The city is well connected by road, rail and air, with excellent public transport links - so we’re the perfect place for you to conduct your interviews. From small rooms for one-to-one interviews, to larger spaces to run group exercises, our modern, professional facilities are available for you to use.
Advertise a role
Our vacancy website, MyCareers, gets around 1,000 hits a week, and students can search by industry sector, company or type of employment. What’s more, the whole vacancy advertising service is free.
LCD TV advertising
If you want to raise your profile as an employer, promote your vacancies or events or just grab the attention of students, you’re able to advertise on the LCD TV screens that are installed across campus.
During the spring semester, the Career Development Service is hosting a series of “Sector: Uncovered” events. These large scale events are designed to provide our students with a greater understanding of a specific sector in focus and inspire them to pursue a career in the area. For each event, we are looking to have four employers represented with the format of the event as below:
- 4 x 15-20 minute presentation per organisation
- 30 minutes of Q&A / Networking
The Leicester Award
As part of our innovative and extensive employability programme, we actively encourage students to get involved in the prestigious Leicester Award. The Leicester Award is a series of experiences designed to help them develop in-demand and must-have transferable skills. This gives our students a business edge and a level of commercial awareness that you’ll be hard pushed to find anywhere else.
For employers, the Leicester Award is a great way to engage and target students who are highly motivated and driven to succeed. There are a number ways that you can get involved too: you could work with students through mock interviews, as tutors or mentors; alternatively, you could lead workshops, networking events and presentations/webinars.
The Leicester Award Gold
The Leicester Award Gold is an intensive, employer led programme, which works with a focussed group of students, who have already committed time to their personal and career development, and completed a personal skills development programme. Most importantly from a recruiter’s perspective, the students have identified they are interested in our business sector, and aims to develop a specific skill that employers find students to be lacking in the recruitment process.
Sponsorship of societies
We have almost two hundred student clubs and societies here, from the well-established to the new and novel. Many of them, especially the societies with a strong professional focus, would welcome sponsorship, funding, guest speakers and opportunities to engage with employers.
