World Book Night is Back!
On 23rd April 2012, a total of 1,000,000 books are being given out across the UK, Ireland, Germany and the USA as part of World Book Night. Twenty five books from a range of authors were chosen by a committee chaired by author Tracey Chevalier, and copies are being given to hospitals, prisons and care homes, as well as selected volunteers. These volunteers will be collecting the books from their local libraries or bookshops then giving them away to those who don’t regularly read.
The University Bookshop is supporting World Book Night by acting as a collection point for the selected books. There will also be a World Book Night chart and displays of the chosen books in store. Food@Uni Events Prove Popular!
Residential and Commercial Services recently worked together with HERO and the Student Healthy Living Service to organise two Food@Uni events for University of Leicester students to learn about Easy Eating to Support Student Life.
These new events aimed to improve students' healthy eating knowledge, awareness, attitudes and diets and to raise the profile of healthy eating across the university. Following the events, a focus group was organised to find out more about the issues faced by students with regards to eating and nutrition. This invaluable information will allow HERO to work with students to design, produce and evaluate resources and events that meet these needs.
One lucky student who attended the Food@Uni event at S-bar in Oadby Student Village won a £10 le card in the prize draw courtesy of Residential and Commercial Services.
Food@Uni - Easy Eating for Student Life
Congratulations to first year Aerospace Engineering student Evan Rowbottom for winning the prize draw after completing our recent Food at Uni survey.
Residential and Commercial Services are working with the Student Healthy Living Service and HERO (a GENIE project) to run two events for students in March based on the results of the survey. University of Leicester students are invited to come along and learn more about all things food-related that will support their student life. To find out more or to register for the events visit the Food at Uni page.
