Overview

Do you currently produce printed course packs for your students? Do you mount published materials onto Blackboard to support teaching modules? Are you thinking of migrating from printed course packs to delivering materials online? Do you understand the copyright differences between using print and digital materials? Then this workshop is for you! During this session we will examine the copyright basics of legally duplicating and using published materials for educational purposes, with a focus on the different methods of delivery available to staff at Leicester.  The session will end with an optional hands-on session.

What will I get out of this course? 

This session will provide you with:

  • An overview of the different licensing schemes the University subscribes to how these affect what and how you can supply materials to students.
  • A broader understanding of the modern institutional copyright environment.  
Who is it for?

Staff (academic or administrative) involved in the compilation of materials for printed course packs or Blackboard delivery. Or any member of staff wanting a greater understanding of educational copyright issues.

Participant preparation needed?

Be prepared to discuss any course pack materials used in support of your academic teaching and/or your own experiences with rights management and seeking permissions.

Additional Information

The two hour core workshop is followed by an optional one hour session demonstrating the specific linking methods used to make materials available via  BlackBoard.

Facilitator(s)

Tania Rowlett – runs the Copyright and Course Packs Service at the David Wilson Library, ensuring that materials delivered to students are compliant with UK copyright law in addition to advising staff and students on their copyright queries.

Gareth J Johnson – manages the Document Supply, Institutional Repository & Copyright teams for the University Library, and is well-versed in the field of open access copyright interpretation.
