This is an induction event aimed at new lecturers to the University and/or those with little or no experience in teaching in the UK Higher Education sector.

Morning or 1 day course depending on experience (see below)

What can I expect to cover?  The morning programme will provide an induction for teaching at the University of Leicester.  Participants will learn about our career structures, students at Leicester and the Leicester Library Service. 

 

Sessions continue in the afternoon and are designed to accommodate lecturers who are not only new to the University but also new to teaching in Higher Education.  They will be introduced to Blackboard, the University’s Virtual Learning Environment, and will be given useful advice on planning and delivering lectures.

  • An introduction to the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF)
  • Leicester students
  • Teaching non-native English speakers
  • The Library @ Leicester
  • Ingredients of effective lecturing and on-line  teaching
Who is it for?

Primarily this course is aimed at new lecturing staff to the University.

This event is open to lecturing staff.  Staff who teach but do not undertake the full range of teaching duties (Library and Computer Centre staff, technicians and administrators) are also welcome to attend this particular event.  

However, postgraduate students who are beginning teaching should contact the Postgraduate Researcher Development Team for details about courses to meet their needs.
