StopGAP and students: Dance at Embrace Arts
A group of year 10 students from Ellesmere College in Leicester are working with Embrace Arts, the University’s arts centre, and experimental dance organisation Dance 4 to organise a ‘dance day’ tomorrow (Thursday 17 May).
The day will include a series of dance workshops for year 7 students and performances by Studio 79, a specialist performing arts college based in Leicester's Cultural Quarter.
The project is designed give the young people skills and experience as arts leaders and is part of the students’ Bronze Youth Arts Award, a scheme jointly run by the Arts Council of England and Trinity College London.
Embrace Arts is one of the venues currently taking part in the Let’s Dance International Festival, Leicester’s contribution to the Cultural Olympiad. On Saturday 26 May, StopGAP, the UK’s leading integrated company for dancers with and without disabilities, presents SPUN Productions, “a vibrant piece of dance theatre, set in the imaginary world of an audience voting show, So You’re Not Sure If This Is Dance”.
The StopGAP show starts at 7.30pm with tickets costing £10/£8 from the Embrace Arts boxx office on 0116 252 2455. Hurry though - there’s only half a dozen tickets left for this one!
