Management professor “works hard for his living”
The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) has produced a series of online videos promoting the research which they fund, the latest of which stars Professor Stephen Wood from our School of Management.
The linking theme of the videos is the old nursery rhyme about “Monday’s child is fair of face” etc, with videos being published at eight-day intervals so that each falls on a different day of the week. Stephen’s video is number six which makes him Saturday’s child who, you will no doubt remember, “works hard for his living”.
Stephen undoubtedly does work hard, combining his position as Professor of Management here at Leicester with a Visiting Professorship at the Cass Business School in London and positions on the ESRC’s Methods and Infrastructure Committee, the Steering Committee of the ESRC's Management Practices Survey, the Department of Business, Innovation and Skill's Steering Committee for the Workplace Employee Relations Survey and the Steering Committee of the EEF-ESRC innovation research initiative.
However, that’s not what the video is about. Instead, Stephen takes us though topics of ‘Employment, business and economy’ including trade union membership, family-friendly employment practices and the ESCRS’s Workplace Employment Relations Survey (WERS), which is invaluable for anyone researching this area. The last WERS results were published in 2004 but a new survey was conducted last year and results from that will be published this summer.
A publication bringing together all seven themes will be published after the Sunday’s Child video goes online next weekend.
