Honorary Graduates 2012 no.2 – Margaret Lovell
Renowned Bristol-born sculptor Margaret Lovell is well on her way to becoming a 'Sculpture In the Garden' veteran, having shown work in our annual sculpture exhibition in both 2010 and 2011.
Although she is not exhibiting in this year’s show, she will be returning to the University this week – this time to collect an Honorary Degree.
Margaret’s sculptures are inspired by natural forms and bring to mind wind-swept plants and stone structures. She studied at the West of England College of Art, Bristol, between 1956 and 1960, and went on to study at the Slade School of Fine Art in London from 1960 to 1962 and the Academy of Fine Art in Florence.
She has since shown work around the UK, Europe and the USA. Her work is currently on show with the touring exhibition ‘Unpopular Culture’ after being selected by Turner prize-winning ceramicist Grayson Perry, the show’s curator.
