Leicester praised for partnership with university in Kurdistan - Iraq
The University of Leicester has received praise from David Willetts, Universities and Science Minister, at the ‘Bridging the Knowledge Gap’ conference in London on 30 January for its ambitious collaboration with the University of Kurdistan-Hewler which resulted in the establishment of an English Language Centre for students.
UK Trade and Investment have publicised the comments in a news release on the Minister’s meeting with the Minister of Higher Education in Kurdistan.
Aiming to provide new opportunities for students to take English language qualifications in their home country, the English Language Centre is located in Erbil (Hewler), the capital city of the Federal Region of Kurdistan - Iraq, and was established in October 2011.
It is hoped that this two-way relationship of academic cooperation between the University’s International English Language Centre and the University of Kurdistan-Hewler will bring cultural benefits and provide more opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration.
