The Yorkshire Post (established 1754) has a feature on Lisa Parhad, who graduated from our School of English last summer and is now bringing poetry to the people of her home town.

During her time at Leicester studying English Language and Literature, Lisa was arts editor for our student magazine The Ripple and a DJ on our student radio station LUSH. Returning to Huddersfield after graduation, Lisa set up HOWL, an open mic night for poets of all stripes and levels of experience, with contributions from visual artists and musicians too.

The initial event in December went down so well that HOWL has now become a regular gig with the next one this Saturday. Lisa, who has interned for The Times, The Sunday Times and a fashion magazine in Dubai since her graduation, is also editing a HOWL poetry magazine. Lisa’s own poetry, written under the nom-de-plume Luxx, has collected into an e-book, Down the Rabbit Hole, available on Amazon.

HOWL takes place at the Bluerooms, Byram Arcade, Huddersfield on Saturday 4 February 2012, 8.00pm-11.00pm. Entry is two quid but performers get in free. If you want to rap your stuff, e-mail howl-zine@hotmail.co.uk or just get down early on the night to sign up.
