University of Leicester students on snow patrol
As wintery storms fell in Leicester over the weekend, our students were on hand to rescue motorists in need
University of Leicester students became the heroes of the hour last weekend after rescuing several struggling motorists trying to get up the hill near our halls of residence. Students Anthony Betts and Karen Smith were on their way back from the supermarket when they spotted the treacherous build-up of snow and ice on London Road. Many motorists fell afoul of the drifts - but fortunately, the two students and their friends Cain Fleckney and Daisy Parker were on hand to push them free.
Another group of young people who weren't students also joined in.
They spent several hours coming to the aid of struggling drivers, pushing cars up the hill and alerting the police to the dangerous conditions. Their heroic efforts were recognised by members of the public, some of whom wrote to the Leicester Mercury in praise of their selfless behaviour.
Their good deeds did not go completely unrewarded: one particularly grateful motorist thanked the students with a crate of cider. Cheers!
