Student piñatas raise money for charity
What could be more fun than whacking a brightly coloured thing full of sweets with a big stick?
Well done to our Latin American Society who organised a charity event in the Students' Union last week in which students were invited to have a go at thrashing a piñata.
There was also a raffle plus the opportunity to decorate a mini-piñata and find out more about the traditional Latin American pastime of filling things with sweets and then hitting them till they explode.
All told, the event raised a solid hundred pounds for the LATA Foundation, a registered charity which supports projects throughout Mexico, Central and South America, ranging from community weaving co-operatives to reforestation schemes and wildlife initiatives.
The Latin American Society would like to thank everyone who took part and also Bradt Travel Guides and the Mexico Tourist Board for donating raffle prizes.

- Take that! And that! Another pinata bites the dust...
