Law students visit French Parliament

Leicester students in the French National Assembly

A group of students from our School of Law recently had the chance to visit the French Parliament as part of an international event run by the Law Students World Federation.

The LSWF is an organisation which promotes international exchanges, furthers closer relationships between solicitors, barristers and professionals at a global level, and advances the communication of professional and cultural knowledge in the legal world.

Fourth year LLB student Tasneem Woozeer, who is International Relations Officer for the Leicester-Sorbonne LSWF and previously spent a year in Paris through the Erasmus exchange scheme, organised the Paris trip. Law course rep Charles du Couedic arranged the guided tour of the two houses of the French Parliament, the National Assembly and the Senate.

The rooms were decorated beautifully, with ornate paintings and spectacular gold detail covering each wall. It was enlightening to see the rooms where laws are actually debated, to see the office of the President of the Assembly, and to walk down the red carpets and through the mirrored doors. We were given a guided tour around both buildings and were told of the history of each particular room, giving us a real insight into the daily lives of the members of Parliament who worked there.

Then in the evening, the Leicester students joined law students from around the world at a fabulous Law Ball in a building on the Champs-Elysee.
