Olympic bronze for Leicester law graduate
We are always pleased to see our graduates do well so there was great joy on campus last week when the Team GB Men’s Eight took the bronze medal in the London 2012 Olympics.
Cox on the boat was Phelan Hill, who graduated from our School of Law in 2001. He took up rowing the following year, after moving to London, and became a member of the GB team in 2007, since when he has coxed the boat to silver medals at the World Rowing Championships and in the World Cup Series.
Team GB made the final of the Man’s Eight at Eton Dorney and started strongly but were beaten by Germany and just pipped at the line by Canada. Nevertheless a tremendously credible performance and a well-deserved podium place.
Phelan’s colleagues in the boat were Constantine Louloudis, Alex Partridge, James Foad, Tom Ransley, Ric Egington, Mo Sbihi, Greg Searle and Matt Langridge.
