Leicester rowers triumph at damp boat race
It may have chucked it down yesterday but that didn’t deter the hardy souls of the University of Leicester Rowing Club, nor their opponents from De Montfort University. Nor indeed the ranks of soggy spectators who lined the towpath of the River Soar for the second annual Varsity Boat Race.
Both teams were quick off the mark but the Leicester rowers built up a lead over the 700m course that the DMU boat couldn’t pull back. The winners’ medals were awarded by the Leicester City Mayor, Sir Peter Soulsby.
We won last year’s race as well but DMU have vowed to come back strongly next year and try to prevent the hat trick. Bring it on!
