Free one-day event on 20 April questions nature and purpose of academic disciplines.

As part of its ongoing Re-Presenting Reformation project, our School of Museum Studies is hosting a one-day symposium on Disciplinarity next Friday, 20 April 2012.

Participants from a range of institutions, including Yale, the Tate, the Science Museum, the Royal Institution and various universities, will debate:

  • Disciplinarity: Why do we have academic disciplines? From where did they come, and how have they evolved?
  • Interdisciplinarity: How do we work best across and between disciplines? What do we gain and lose through interdisciplinarity? And...
  • Post-disciplinarity: Are our academic disciplines still fit for purpose? Do we sometimes resist disciplinarity? How are disciplines viewed outside the academy?

Registration is free and the event includes refreshments and a buffet lunch. Delegates will also have the chance to view The Order of Things, a related, temporary exhibition by Museum Studies postgraduates.
