A group of organic chemistry students will be taking part in a pioneering national pilot of Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELNs).

New software will allow students to use electronic tablets such as iPads to record their experimental results, and may potentially make paper lab books a thing of the past.

The pilot is part of an EPSRC funded Dial-a-Molecule Grand Challenge that seeks to promote research aimed at a step change in our ability to deliver synthetic molecules quickly and efficiently.

Dr Andrew Jamieson from the Department of Chemistry is coordinating the pilot at Leicester. Altogether, sixteen UK universities have been selected to take part in the pilot which will take place from April until September, during which the students will trial cutting edge computer software.
