Leicester historian helps comedian find his Geordie roots on TV
This week’s edition of celebrity family history programme Who Do You Think You Are? investigated the background of popular comedian Alan Carr, whose grandfather, it turns out, played professional football for Newcastle United.
As part of the programme, Professor Rob Colls from our School of Historical Studies, dug around among newspaper archives and uncovered some match reports from the late 1920s recounting Carr Sr’s goal-scoring prowess.
The programme is available to watch on iPlayer for the next month or so. Rob’s segment is two minutes long starting at about 7’10”.
Rob is also the founder of our legendary New History Lab which will be back in the new term with some more discussion, debate, delightful guests and delicious cake.
