The University of Leicester has announced the launch of a brand new Research Centre for Translation and Interpreting Studies on 9 February.

It will be based in our School of Modern Languages where it will strengthen the work in translation that already goes on there. In fact, they've already made a start as 2011 will see the launch of a new MA in Translation Studies.

Leading the initiative is the newly appointed Professor Kirsten Malmkjær, Head of the Research Centre for Translation and Interpreting Studies, who is determined to establish a centre of excellence at Leicester.

The centre will support research into translation at the University, providing resources and supervision for PhD students, as well as developing links with colleagues from within the discipline through conferences and seminars. And like all our research, it is also expected to feed into degree programmes and other teaching activities across the University.
