Comments by two criminologists at Leicester, that racism is rife in rural areas, generated the biggest story for the University this week. The Daily Mail (30 March) and Metro (29 March) newspapers covered it nationally while internationally, Asian News International (29 March) and Curbed NY (29 March) ran the story. It was also featured in local newspapers Western Daily Press (30 March) and Western Morning Press (30 March).

The weekend saw the true identity of Robin Hood revealed, according to a book by retired Leicester historian David Baldwin. The Daily Mail (2 April) and Daily Express (2 April) both ran substantial features on the story, and it was even covered by the Press Trust For India (3 April) and the Indo-Asian News Service (3 April).

The University featured very prominently in two national publications: in the Times Higher Education (31 March), Professor David Wynford-Thomas discussed the research strategy in the College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology; and the Guardian’s ‘Postgraduate Courses’ supplement (29 March) discussed the work of the Beyond Distance Research Alliance in using social networking in distance learning.

The Independent (31 March) also featured a Leicester case study from the School of Management in an article about embedding workplace skills in courses. There was also plenty of media coverage for work due to begin on the Cardiovascular Research Centre.  This appeared in Top News Arab Emirates (2 April) as well as a host of trade media.

Leicester students were filmed at the Percy Gee Building ahead of India and Pakistan's cricket match, with fans of both teams interviewed by Central News(30 March). In other local news, the Leicester Mercury reported on the start of Ian Reeds' bike challenge (4 April) and Leicester student Sarah Johnson's fantastic performance in the Home Countries Cross-Country International (30 March)

Finally, an exhibition on the work of James Stirling, including Leicester’s iconic Engineering Building, has led to some enthusiastic discussion in the Guardian’s (2 April) and the Times’ (2 April) review pages, as well as the Architects Journal (30 March).
