Award-winning author Bernardine Evaristo will read from, and discuss, her work at a one-off Literary Leicester event on Friday 26 March.

Evaristo’s work, which combines elements of prose and verse, includes Lara, Blonde Roots, Soul Tourists and The Emperor’s Babe. Between them, these four volumes have been selected as a 'Book of the Year' 12 times by various newspapers.

Her latest work is a novella entitled Hello Mum which was published by Penguin earlier this month as part of their Quick Reads series and is “Suitable for adults and even teenagers ... even those teenage boys who wouldn’t normally touch a novel!” You can read the first few pages for free in this PDF.

Dr David Farrier from our School of English will chair this free, public event on 26 March when Evaristo will read extracts from her work and answer questions from the audience. The venue is the New Lecture Theatre underneath the David Wilson Library (NB. Entry is from the rear of the library, next to Wyggeston Drive).

This is a one-off event organised by Literary Leicester. The University’s annual Literary Leicester festival of the written word will return in October.
