Guidance on using other libraries
Please remember that although these schemes allow access and in some cases the borrowing of materials:
- You are not usually able to use electronic resources (such as electronic journals) or IT facilities, other than the library's catalogue
- You should always carry your University ID card
- It is worth checking library opening hours and facilities before visiting
- You are bound by the rules and regulations of any libraries visited
- Some libraries will require passport type photos
SCONUL Access
SCONUL Access is a co-operative venture between most of the higher education libraries of the UK and Ireland. It enables staff, research students, full time postgraduates and all part-time, distance learning and most placement students to borrow material from other libraries. It also allows full-time undergraduate students reference access.
To join, download and complete an application form
.
Before going to the Library you wish to use, take the completed form to the David Wilson Library. If you are a distance learning student, please post your completed form to: University of Leicester Library, Distance Learning Service, PO Box 248, University Road, Leicester LE1 9QD.
The form will then be validated by Library staff and you will receive a SCONUL Access Card.
Take your SCONUL Access card and your University ID card to the library or libraries you wish to join. Some libraries may also require you to provide a passport photo.
All HE libraries in the East Midlands are members of this scheme. It is important that you join the scheme before making a journey to the University Library you wish to use.
SCONUL vacation access scheme
University of Leicester students will normally be allowed to use other university libraries for reference purposes during vacations under the terms of the SCONUL vacation access scheme (Society of College, National and University Libraries).
