Library Card and PIN
Your Library Card
Library cards are not transferable. Please do not allow anyone else to use your card. Keep your Library card safe as you are responsible for its use and all the items issued to it. Cards must not be marked, defaced, altered or deliberately damaged in any way. Lost or stolen cards must be reported to the Library immediately. A charge is made for replacement cards.
Any misuse of Library cards is a breach of Library regulations and is subject to sanctions. The University Library reserves the right to withdraw any Library cards that have been deemed to have been misused in any way.
Your PIN
Your Library PIN is your unique number, which allows you to make full use of the Library Catalogue including viewing your Library account, renewing your loans, placing holds and making requests for Document Supply services. Your PIN should be kept safe at all times and not disclosed to anyone.
Obtaining a Library PIN
PINs are given to:
- Academic staff when they return their completed application form to the Library.
- New undergraduate and postgraduate students by email which is sent to their University email account at the start of term during October.
- All other University staff, students and external members when collecting their Library card.
Forgotten PINs
If you have forgotten your PIN or never received it, you can get a reminder using one of the following methods:
Visiting the Library
On production of one of the following forms of valid identification, the staff at the Help Zone or Service Desk will provide you with your PIN.
A valid form of ID can be any of the following:
- Library card
- Students' Union card
- Staff/Student ID card
- Passport
- Driving Licence
Email requests from University Staff and Students with @le.ac.uk email accounts
On receipt of one of the valid forms of ID from the list below, we will provide you with your PIN by email. Please note that PINs will only be sent by email to valid University of Leicester @le.ac.uk email accounts
A valid form of ID for University staff and students can be any of the following:
- Library card number
- Student number
- Staff employment number
- Staff University Department details
- Home Address with Postcode

Email requests from Library members without @le.ac.uk email accounts

Telephone requests for Library PIN numbers
On confirmation of two instances from the list below we will provide you with your PIN over the telephone
- Library card number
- Student ID number
- Home address and postcode
Telephone requests should be made to 0116 252 2043
Changing your Library PIN
You can use the Library Catalogue to change your PIN.
