Collecting your loans
Books, and bound volumes including theses
When your item arrives we will contact you to say it is ready for collection. Please collect it from the David Wilson Library reception desk in person, bringing your library card with you. Rarely material is supplied as a microform, for which the Help Zone can provide assistance in using.
We cannot post out books that have been received from another library to Distance Learning students, although we can provide you with a photocopy of their contents pages. From this you can choose a portion of the book (1 chapter/5% whichever is greater) to be supplied as a postal photocopy.
All items are issued subject to recall by the lending library. If this happens we will contact you.
Library use only items
Please be aware that some items maybe restricted to library use only and may not be taken out of the building. Generally this only applies to older or rare items, although on occasion some specialist libraries restrict all their items that are loaned. Restrictions are applied by the lending library and we must abide by them. Items that are available on microform are usually only for use in the library only.
Distance Learning students are normally supplied with electronic copies of book chapters or articles, unless they specifically request print format documents or it is not possible to supply the item electronically due to copyright restrictions.
Electronic copies are always sent to your University of Leicester email. Photocopies are sent to the primary address we have on your library record. These do not need to be returned.
Returning or renewing loaned items
Please return loans by the due date to the David Wilson Library. Please do not remove the issue slip, as this may delay its return to the lending library. Fines are charged on overdue loans and use of the library facilities may also be restricted.
Items on loan from other libraries may sometimes be renewed, but this is not always possible.
If you wish to renew an item you must contact Document Supply staff during the week preceding the due date. We will then approach the lending library and enquire if a renewal is possible. If you wait until the due date for return, it may not be possible to renew the item in time.
