How long does it take?
Items immediately available for loan from the British Library are usually supplied within 7 days. Electronic or photocopies of articles and book chapters may come more quickly than this. However, you should always allow some time between your request being placed and the materials becoming available to you.
Items not immediately available or more specialist works may take much longer to be supplied. We will contact you via email if we require more information or if there are likely to be lengthy delays.
Some items may not be available for loan, or have and we will notify you if this is the case. There may be additional costs for especially lengthy searches.
British Library Asbestos work delays (2011-12)
Currently the British Library Boston Spa Document Supply Centre is undergoing a removal of asbestos from their buildings. This means some materials may be harder for us to obtain than normal as they may not be immediately retrievable.
In the event that the British Library is unable to supply them we will source them from other libraries. However, this will make the supplying take a slightly longer. As a further consequence some items will be supplied for loan for a shorter period than normal.
Please contact us if you have any questions and see the BL news notice for up-to-date information.
