    <description>Directive 2011/77/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27th September 2011 has now been published.</description>
    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: left;">Following their decision to haromonise the term of copyright protection in the EU, the European Parliament and Council have issued a <a href="http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2011:265:0001:0005:EN:PDF">new directive </a>to amend existing copyright law.  The directive would extend the period of copyright protection within the UK from 50 to 70 years. </p>
<p>Member States are required to incorporate this Directive by 1 November 2013.</p>]]></content:encoded>
