Using social media

bandwagon

You may already use social networking sites like Facebook and microblogging sites like Twitter to keep up to date with friends.  How can they help you keep up to date with your subject area or research?

Introductions

- from the Research Information Network

Social networking

Networking sites like Facebook connect people with each other, based on shared interests or friendship.   By staying up to date with friends, you might be helping yourself keep up to date with your research or subject area.

Read this guide from Educause to find out more about using Facebook in higher education (Educause's earlier guide is also still available)   There are also other networking sites, like LinkedIn, aimed at professional or business use.

Microblogging

Microblogging sites like Twitter enable people to share short items or news or updates about their work.   Find out more from Educause's guides to microblogging and to Twitter specifically.
