Italian Literature

  • Biblioteca dei classici italiani
    An online collection of Italian novels, poems, plays, and essays by more than 200 authors. There is also information on key literary figures and trends from 1200 to the present.
  • Biblioteca digitale IntraText : letteratura italiana
    An online archive of Italian literary, theatrical, and religious works, allowing users to work interactively with individual texts via the glossary and concordance.
  • Italian poetry
    A selection of contemporary Italian poetry online. Essays on themes and individual poets are also presented on the website, and there is an overview of contemporary poetry in Italy
  • Il narratore
    An online archive of audio files of Italian literature recited by actors.  It includes novels, poetry, and drama in the public domain, and some contemporary works.

Italian language

  • CLIPS: corpus of spoken and written Italian
    Contains  written documents and audio files that contain about 100 hours of speech from 15 different cities in Italy. PDF transcripts are provided for many of the files.
  • Lingua giovani
    A project aiming to analyse and study the language of young people in Italy. You can search for words and expressions by town, region, word or meaning, and the year the word was added to the dictionary.
  • Oggi e domani
    An online interactive Italian language course in 20 lessons which includes reading comprehension exercises which are marked online.
  • Sito del verbo
    A reference guide to Italian containing grammatical explanations, an index of irregualr verbs and online exercises.

TV and Film

  • BBC Languages: Italian TV online programmes
    A list of websites of Italian TV stations providing internet access to programmes.
  • Del Cinema
    Includes production data, cast lists, photographs, plot summaries and reviews of major Italian and international films. There are also interviews with directors and actors, information on cinema festivals, and a discussion forum.
  • Rivista del cinematografo
     An online magazine which publishes articles, reviews, and news relating to both Italian and international films. It provides a searchable database of films, actors, and directors, along with current information on Italian cinema.

Dictionaries

  • Dialettando : dialetti d'Italia
    A site dedicated to Italian dialects featuring an online dictionary, which allows users to search for the dialect equivalent of Italian words, drawn from a list arranged by region.
  • Dizionario etimologico online
    A digital version of the Vocabolario Etimologico di Pianigiani. You can view facsimiles of the printed edition's entries, which give the definition of the word and details of its linguistic origins and derivatives.
  • Collins Free Italian Online Dictionary
    An online version of the Collins Pocket Italian dictionary, containing over 40,000 Italian words and references. Elsewhere on the site there is a real-time translation tool.

Italian Culture

  • Italica
    A site  created by the Italian national broadcaster RAI (Radio Televisione Italiana). It provides online resources for Italian studies and is a valuable source of information on Italian language and culture.
  • ICoN : Italian culture on the net
    Contains an online library with over 250 texts by some of Italy's most important authors. There is also a museum of art works dating from antiquity to the 20th century.
  • Digital library of Sardinia
    An archive of material on the history and culture of the region. The files comprise video, image, text, and audio resources.
