Wellcome Trust indicates tougher OA compliance approach
The recently announced RCUK proposals on open access have already seen a response from funders in the form of the Wellcome Trust. As reported in The Times Higher Education (29th March) it is not happy with its current levels of compliance from funded researchers (55%). They have indicated they are likely to adopt a number of options including withholding final payments of grants until confirmation that all publications associated with it had been made open access, in repositories such as UKPMC.
Two further related articles on this have now appeared in the Guardian (9th & 10th April 2012) Wellcome Trust joins 'academic spring' to open up science and Government backs calls for research data to be made freely available.
The Wellcome Trust's current open access publication and deposit policy can be found on the SHERPA/Juliet site, along with policies from most of the other major UK research funders.
