INSPEC is produced by the Institution of Electrical Engineers and is regarded as the premier database for access to the world's leading scientific and technical literature in physics, electrical engineering, electronics, communications, control engineering, computers and computing and information technology. (INSPEC was developed from Science Abstracts, first published in 1898.)

INSPEC has been in production since 1969, and contains over 7 million records, each one referring to a published journal article, conference paper or other document. Approximately a further 300,000 records are added per year in weekly updates. INSPEC records cover the period from 1969 to the present date.
