Services for staff

Tania Rowlett provides advice and guidance on the use of copyright materials for teaching purposes, including printed books and journals, newspaper articles, e-books, e-journals, archive materials, web documents, TV and radio broadcasts, and web 2.0 output.

Tania runs the scanning service, providing licensed PDF copies of documents via Blackboard, and provides guidance on linking to the library’s electronic resources.  She also checks document lists for printed course packs and will obtain permissions where appropriate.

In conjunction with Gareth Johnson, Tania also provides copyright training for staff, which encompasses the exceptions and limitations of the Copyright Designs and Patents Act (1988), what is permitted under national licences subscribed to by the University, the impact and implications of creative commons resources and where best to source open and freely reusable materials.

Tania is available to speak to individuals on a 121 basis, or visit departments.

Services for learners

Tania can provide advice to students using copyright materials in their project work, as well as doctoral students working towards submitting their thesis.

Professional Interests

Tania completed a 1 year secondment to the BDRA where she acted as Copyright Administrator on their JISC and HEA funded OTTER Open Educational Resources (OER) project.  She has also been the IPR and Copyright Knowledge Transfer Fellow for the BDRA on their OSTRICH and TIGER OER cascade projects.
