2 December: Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research

Representatives from Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research (LLR), visited the University on Friday 2 December 2011. The visitors were shown around the Henry Wellcome Building and watched a presentation by Catrin Pritchard, Martin Dyer and Simon Wagner from the College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology. Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research is the Mayor of Oadby and Wigston’s supported charity this year and the Mayor was scheduled to attend but unfortunately had to withdraw.

26 October: Baroness Linklater

Baroness Linklater, Liberal Democrat peer, enjoyed lunch with Professor Sir Robert Burgess, Ms Jo Wood, Adrian Beck and Professor Mark Lester on 26 October 2011 before visiting the Department of Criminology and the Space Research Centre. NB. Baroness Linklater previously attended the Leicester Exchanges live event 'Should we Punish or Reform Offenders?' at the Tower of London, which featured Carol Hedderman from the Department of Criminology on the panel.

21 October: Chairman of Leicestershire County Council

Jackie Dickinson, Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, visited the School of Archaeology and Ancient History and the School of Biological Sciences on 21 October. She met with: Professor Sir Robert Burgess, Vice-Chancellor; Ms Jo Wood, Assistant Registrar; Professor Colin Haselgrove and Professor John Schwabe.

18 October: Icelandic Abassador

HE Ambassador Benedikt Jónsson from the Embassy of Iceland and his wife Ms Aðalheiður Óskarsdóttir visited the Department of Physics and Astronomy, the Space Research Centre and the Department of Geography on 18 October 2011. They met with Professor Sir Robert Burgess, Vice-Chancellor; Ms Jo Wood, Assistant Registrar; Dr Sue Page and Professor Tim Yeoman.

14 October: Mayor of Oadby and Wigston

Councillor Linda Broadley, Mayor of Oadby and Wigston Borough Council, and Councillor Frank Broadley visited the Department of Genetics and the Victorian Studies Centre on 14 October 2011. The Mayor met with Professor Sir Robert Burgess, Vice-Chancellor; Ms Jo Wood, Assistant Registrar; Professor Julian Ketley and Professor Gail Marshall.
